Update on easing of restrictions and what it means for us. 11/05/20
Last Friday, the Prime Minister outlined the baseline of 3 step approach to easing restrictions. He left it up to each state and territory to consider their own timeline based on their own circumstances. NSW announced yesterday that we will commence step one on Friday 15th May. Our premier did not commit to the date when step 2 would commence. Based on most of the other states, step 2 should occur around mid-June.
What does this mean for swimming & swimming lessons?
Step 1
Under step 1, outdoor pools can open for up to 10 people at a time. Indoor pools are to remain closed.
Step 2
Under step 2, indoor pools will be allowed to upon but are limited to a maximum of 20 people in the venue at any one time.
Step 3
Under step 3, the limit for indoor pools will increase from 20 to 100.
At this stage there has been no mention of any exemption to the rules for swimming lessons. Industry bodies including Royal Life Saving Society, Swim Australia and the Australian Swim Schools association have been lobbying government to have swim schools classified in line with schools and Pre-Schools and deem them to be an essential service. We’ve had no word from government at this stage.
We are currently working on a plan that fits within the limitations of step two. This plan will allow us to provide the opportunity to have as many students return to swimming lessons as possible whilst staying within the maximum of 20 people in the complex at any one time rule. We will have more information on this in the coming week once the government provides more specific details.
Watch this space, and we will provide another update asap.
