NAC Squads

Have you considered Nepean Aquatic Centre Swim Squads?

NAC swim squads offer a tiered level of structured learning and development for competitive swimmers with a clear pathway from junior to performance elite squad training. Activation of body and mind is expected by each level of NAC squad athlete for at least 15 minutes prior to commencing any swim training. There are no short cuts to success. The path is not always direct but it is always interesting, challenging and often fun. A happy, relaxed and confident athlete, swims well.

Multi-class athletes are welcomed and are integrated into the appropriate squad training level in accordance with their swimming ability and goal focus. Paralympic athletes have been born in the lanes at NAC and nurtured towards Australian teams to represent our country at the Paralympics ; Deaflympics ; Dwarf Games ; Global Games and Special Olympics.

Training for distance events in the pool and in the open water are specified for athletes who are particularly interested in pursuing a swimming career along that path. A varied programme with training sessions at the Sydney International Regatta Centre, ocean, lakes or rivers are tailored to the needs of the athletes in the current squad.

From a junior bronze level of swimming training, athletes are offered a weekly dryland session to supplement their pool sessions. The focus is always in support of body balance; co-ordination; strength and conditioning that will assist the athlete with awareness of position and feel in the water. Silver squad athletes and above will undertake a strength session twice per week under the instruction of a qualified strength and conditioning coach.

Junior athletes who display a keenness and aptitude for the sport of competitive swimming and who show willingness to listen, apply skills taught and step up to challenges set during training sessions, may be invited by our Head Coach to participate in a “Target” squad. Members of this squad will train together on a weekly basis and they will be offered some variation to their normal squad training protocol. Target Squad participants are extended stimulation with activities that are varied and offer a fun atmosphere akin to the needs of a developmental swimmer. Team building is paramount with a desire to transcend the group in unison from junior development to state qualified athletes and where they each hold a special collection of memorable experiences that they shared along the trek.

National Open and Age qualified athletes are afforded specific “Challenger” squad training sets in addition to and separate from their regular intense squad training sessions at important seasonal phases of their competition preparation.

Our Head Coach supports a structured learning environment based on honest communication that will instil strong character-building qualities of courage, discipline, time management skills and will lay the foundation to resonate with the athlete as a person far beyond their swimming career.

All NAC swim squad team members are required to be current financial registered members of Nepean Aquatic Centre Swim Club. Our Head Coach is the Head Coach of NACSC. The club executive committee are volunteers who are elected by the club members and who support our Head Coach through fundraising activities that afford the athletes of all swimming ability an opportunity to experience club time trial evenings; training camps; access to professional guest speakers; target meets and qualifying events that may also involve interstate or international travel. The club does not currently have any major sponsorship.

NACSC holds an annual short course qualifying meet and an open water event that is open to the wider swimming community. Club members are actively involved in local community and charity events such as 70.3 ironman and Cole Classic.
