NSW 2021/22 Budget pre-school learn to swim voucher program

Learn to swim voucher announcement – what we know so far….

The NSW Government today announced that they have committed $22 million in the 2021/22 Budget for a new pre-school learn to swim voucher program.

The program will provide one $100 voucher for parents, guardians and carers of pre-school aged children to use towards water safety or learn to swim programs each year until June 2023.

From January 2022, parents, guardians and carers can apply for the $100 learn to swim voucher.

The voucher may be used with a registered provider for supervised structured water safety or learn to swim activities.

The Learn To Swim Pre-schooler Voucher Program aims to contribute to increased skills and competence of NSW children in water.

This voucher program differs from the Active Kids Vouchers in that it only relates to water safety and learn to swim activities, and only pre-school-aged children will be eligible for this voucher. Similar to the Active Kids program, vouchers will be able to be redeemed at registered providers.

Children who will be eligible to claim a voucher must:
• reside in NSW
• be aged 3 – 6 years’ old
• hold or be listed on a valid Medicare card
• not yet be enrolled in primary school (this includes home schooled).

We applaud the NSW governments commitment to providing opportunities for children to learn vital water safety and survival skills from a young age – a skill they will keep with them for life. Every child should know how to be safe both in and around the water, and in order to prevent drowning, children must have basic swimming and water safety skills. Families across NSW will be able to use these vouchers when they enrol their children in swimming lessons and have the peace of mind that their child is safe in the water.

More details on the program will be announced soon!
