Congratulations to Jade Sweeney!
Congratulations to Jade Sweeney, local diving talent and one of our swim program graduates, who recently picked up five medals from her five events at the National Diving Championships! Jade’s highlights included taking the gold in both the 15-16 years platform and then competing up an age group with her partner Liv O’Rourke in the 17-19 years division.
Jade’s other medals came on the 1m and 3m springboard (silver and bronze) and in the mixed team event (silver).
Another high point of her week actually came out of the pool when the NSW divers headed to the secondary boys softball final – NSW v Queensland. Jade said, “It was so great to watch a new sport. I gained a new found respect for what others do and we were actually invited down to the dugout which added to the experience. The atmosphere was amazing and I’m sure us divers cheering so loudly helped spur NSW on to come from 2-0 down to take the win.”
At the Australian Commonwealth Games Trials on the Gold Coast in December Jade qualified 10th to make the platform final, but an injury sustained during the preliminary rounds prevented her from competing in the final. Whilst this was disappointing for her, she learnt a lot from this experience and knows it will hold her in good stead for future senior competitions.
Jade wishes to thank all the customers at both Eva Bory’s Swim School and Nepean Aquatic Centre for their fundraising support leading up to her recent competitive events.
We wish you all the very best for the future Jade, and couldn’t be prouder!
